Steve Johnson

Countless personal and professional opportunities and experiences have molded and shaped me into the person, the athletic trainer that I am today. With a desire to make a difference in the lives of others, I have committed to deliver instruction that will physically transform the athlete into top quality production.

I began my career in 1987 when I opened the gym, Body World. Body World was bought-out one year later by Cullman Athletic Club, where I continued management for another year. During this time, I worked with an area school, Vinemont High School football program with Coach Mark Smothers. For seven years straight this team made it to the playoffs.
In 1989 I opened another athletic training facility and named it Steve’s Gym. In 1996 I started the first spinning class in Cullman, second to open in the state. I sold this business to Cullman Regional Medical Center in 1999, where I was named strength and conditioning coordinator for CRMC. I set up programs at most of the Cullman county schools for all sports. In 2000 I started work for Cullman High School, training in all sports. The abilities of the CHS athletes led them to win three state titles in baseball, went to state in softball and placed second one year, and several area championships in football and basketball.
From 1988 through 1996 I worked with Wallace State College as the strength and conditioning coach for the athletics departments. I wrote the curriculum for the weight training classes. During my tenure with WSC I had the privilege to train some amazing athletes. The baseball team went to the World Series three times. The volley ball team won about nine State Championships. The track and field team won a National Championship. One of the track athletes went on to win a gold medal in the Olympics. The golf team went to Nationals four times. Two of the golf athletes went on to play and win on the PGA.
Since 1987 I have had the honor and privilege to train over two hundred athletes who have gone on to play college athletics, some even advanced to professional athletics. Wesley, Taylor, and Justin Britt trained with me. Wesley trained while playing for the New England Patriots. Justin trained while playing for Cincinnati. I worked with Steve Woodard as he made his comeback to professional baseball. Currently, there are four athletes who have trained with me that are now playing major league baseball and two golfers still playing on the PGA.
In 2005, I left CRMC to open a new athletic training facility called Young Champions Athletic Training. The focus of this business is to specialize in speed, strength, and agility for male and female athletes. Initially, the business was housed at Triple Play Sports Academy, a baseball and softball facility. After two years and with God’s blessings, the business had grown to a point that required a larger facility. In 2011, I was able to buy TPSA facilities. With a 20,000 sq. ft. building, a 60 yd. track outside, and a small baseball field, opportunities expanded further. We now operate under the name All Sports Performance Training.
All Sports Performance Training trains children as young as 5 years old, if they are mentally prepared to accept the instruction. Early instruction includes the fundamentals of running and agility drills. More advanced exercises are incorporated as the athlete grows and ages. A variety of weight training for younger athlete leads them into the weight room when age appropriate.
I am most proud of how we run this business. In 2009, I was inducted in to the Cullman County Hall of Fame. I take this honor very serious as I continue to serve my community. Our priority is to produce a better person mentally, physically, and most important…spiritually. With Christian based values and principles and gratitude to the Lord for his mercy and blessings, our work is our ministry. We proudly display the 10 Commandments, encouraging the athletes to learn scripture and reward them with free t-shirts as they do.
With God’s help, we are still growing. We currently teach skills that prepare athletes for football, baseball, and softball. Instruction is sport-specific, and no sport is eliminated. Our services can meet your needs.
